On January 6, 1973, John Allen, one of the great pioneers in the model railroading hobby, passed away of a heart attack. 2 weeks later, after his friends shut down the layout and turned off the power, a fire took the house and the layout he was so well known for.
I recently came across these pictures on another forum and thought to pass them on to you...
I found them at once haunting and fascinating, seeing the tragedy of the fire and the uniqueness of the models, how they look so much like his weathering workmanship.
Sad tale, sir... yet, as you said, there's something fascinating in it.
