Model Railroader magazine, May, July, 1970...
Less than five years after N scale was introduced to the commercial market, three big league manufacturers were already betting huge R&D, manufacturing and advertising monies into it, a fairly risky venture so soon after the slot car debacles of the mid-60s in the retail end of the hobby.***

***Nothing against slot cars or their owners, few would remember when the cars surpassed model trains enough that manufacturers were turning their lines over to the cars rather than trains, a move that cost us the likes of A.C. Gilbert and Varney. It was several years before the trains resumed normal production.
