My father and I would go on railfan excursions together in the 80s. Our dream was to eventually hit Cass Scenic Railroad in the fall sometime as the Autumn Leaf Specials were running. Sadly, it was never to be as I lost him to a stroke some years back. This shay was one of the few times I bought a locomotive at retail prices, a move I don't regret. Though far from perfect, he will be honored in my house before his grandchildren, and this is a tangible piece of that honor in my collection.
