Model railroading, 1929...


...two months before Black Tuesday. Note the early effort to get away from the unrealistic middle third rail by using a wire run down the center of the tracks. Note also the use of "Armstrong" levers for controlling the turnouts. For all its obvious faults, this was a very serious effort at realistic model railroading long before the hobby as we know it came to be.

Somebody needed to tell them to lighten up though, with those stone faces, you'd think model trains was a chore on par with cleaning a stable...yeesh...
