HO scale Plymouth switcher...

...I'd add that it was likely an AHM offering but I'm probably wrong.

This is a classic 60s offering of a 4 wheel diesel switcher in that most of it components make for a better S scale narrow gauge growler. The service doors scale out at a generous 4' x 4.5'. The cab door is 4.5' wide by 9' tall, built for Casey Jones' mutant cousin I guess...truly a testament to the more relaxed standards of the day.

I got it from one of my rare betting moments. The shop owner had a box of junk HO that hadn't been priced. I picked this little critter up and asked how much he wanted for it. He said $10 and, upon seeing that I was starting to put it back in the box, he said, "Tell ya what, I'll put it on my test track...if it runs you gimme $10, if it don't, you give me $5."

I won....and...20 minutes after I got it home, a touch of oil and a bit of wheel cleaning, it's purring around my test track.

This is a lucky business, indeed. And the switcher looks awesome, even if it has "a little relaxed standards" for HO...
The coincidence makes it that I just finished my first ever built model (and also the first piece of my future collection), and it's a diesel switcher, too (well, we call it here "locomotiva de manevra" which means obviously "maneuver locomotive"). But mine it's made 99% of cardboard,it's far from being so good looking as yours. Anyway you can see it here: http://img714.imageshack.us/slideshow/player.php?id=img714/165/1267557450r41.smil

I would like to know your opinion (even if it's not a positive one) and I apologize for the poor quality of photos - I have only a mobile phone camera :D
Huh, I almost forget: $10 it's not a bad price, I mean any railway fan here would sell even his underpants to buy it! And 5 it's pure luck !

I want to see your model but I can't get the link to work. Never be ashamed of what you build, too many in this hobby don't even try.

Someday in the future I'd sell it for the original $5, after I've had my fun with it...I don't know that I would take a rail fan's underpants for it though... ;-)

Now here's another link with my switcher, hope it works.

In cardboard?! Sweet, how's it run?

Cristake1974 said...

Thank you, sir. But it doesn't run. I might have one or two little engine somewhere, but with cardboard wheels and transmission it wouldn't run... It's a static model.
